Climate change challenges are no longer a question of the future alone, they are a harsh reality today and are a serious concern for youth. In fact, a recent survey found that climate change takes precedence for Indian millennials, with 26 per cent emphasising its significance. The same survey reveals that climate concern is deemed important by 79 per cent of Indian Gen and 81 percent of Indian millennials.

We believe that integrating sustainability and climate consciousness in the ongoing learning process for the younger generation is one way of influencing their understanding of climate change and how they can apply it to their chosen professions. 

This Climate Charche Lecture Series for architecture students recognises them as professionals who will soon be making critical decisions about the environment – built and otherwise. The findings of another recent survey shared that, current day climate education tends to emphasise facts over critical thinking, leading to under confidence in understanding climate change and mitigation strategies. Thus, rather than merely offer a theoretical understanding of the climate situation, the effort here was to seed a new climate lens for the students in how they view, think and understand the environment.

Purpose

• To highlight the impact of sustainable choices in their chosen professions, as they embark on their careers.
